Unsorted notes. I should investigate more deeply.
Jazz levels don't load equally fast, even at identical DOSBox config. E.g., Dominator_101's levels load slightly faster than mine at 40,000 cycles in Dosbox 0.74 (explicitly not 0.74-2). I used 0.74-7 in Arch, which is build with upstream's 0.74 sources and some gcc 7 (I think, might be gcc 6, but probably 7).
Disabling both sound and music produces faster load times. Probably shouldn't be allowed then in runs to disable sound/music?
sil is my (Simon's) Desktop machine from October 2016. Runs Arch Linux. Intel Core i5-6600 CPU with 4 cores at 3.3 GHz, 16 GB RAM, and purely SSD for permanent storage.

Load times are important. Single-episode speedruns suffer up to a second of differences. World records can be within a second of the second-best run, and it would be sad to leave this up to uninvestigated load times.
Extra notes at end of handwriting of the HH95 sil Wine: "Win 0.74 = Win 0.71." I don't understand anymore what I meant with this. Maybe that on F's Windows laptop, Dosbox 0.74 and Dosbox 0.71 had identical load times? Or that in sil's Wine, Dosbox 0.74 and Dosbox 0.71 had identical load times?
